How about giving RSS a try?

Confused about RSS? No worries. The folks over at Common Craft have put together a simple video explaining RSS in plain English.

Check it out:

Let your Feed Reader bring updates to you

I use Google Reader for reading feeds. It's easy to use, web-based, and free!

And when I find interesting articles in Google Reader, I share them.

You can view my shared items here:  http://www.google.com/reader/shared/18286882134581028572

And of course, there's a feed for my shared items. Which means you can subscribe to my feed, so you can see what I find interesting (if you care).

I am a big fan of RSS as well (already a subscriber).  Besides the google reader mentioned above, I recommend Newsgator (http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/Default.aspx ). They have an online reader as well as a standard software based reader.  One of the best things about their service is that they both sync together. So you can use either or both with no issues. Of course, they are free as well.

Using Feed Readers still require you to go to a website to see which new feeds you have. Correct?

If you are already using Outlook 2007, wouldn't it be easier to use their RSS feed capabilities where you are automatically notified when you receive a feed?

Stephen - it depends on your Reader.

There are a boatload of feed readers. Some of them are web-based, and some of them are applications.

Outlook 2007 is a feed reader (and an email client, a group collaboration tool, personal contact manager, calendar application, To Do list, floor wax, and dessert topping)

You have to access your Reader to see what new posts are available.

For Outlook 2007, that means starting the Outlook application.

For Google Reader, that means pointing your browser to the Google Reader website.

For NewsGator, if you use their online version, it means pointing your browser to their website.

For NewsGator, if you use their application, it means starting the application.

etc.

Gary - thanks for stopping by.

I used to use NewsGator a while ago.

I tried the app, as well as the online version.

I remember having some performance and syncing issues, which drove me to Google Reader and I never looked back.

I'm sure NewsGator has improved since I left it.

I like being web-based, so I whether I access it from my Windows laptop at work, my MacBook at home, or my parents desktop when I visit them, I'm always in sync with no software to download/install/upgrade.

Rock on.
