Google Desktop vs Outlook 2007

Yesterday Scott asked me if Google Desktop Search (GDS) works with Outlook 2007. I just started using the new Outlook so I didn't know. Let's settle this with a screenshot:

I did a search in Outlook 2007 and found 2 hits. The Google Desktop Search widget returned 47. Which would you find more useful?

Outlook only searches the inbox by default if you use the quick search while in the inbox.

Click the dropdown at the right, and you can search all mail.

Thanks Lou, I didn't know about that search scope widget in Outlook 2007. I re-did the search and now have 56 items. Excellent that is 10 more than GDS. However my out of the box experience was better with GDS it just worked. I would argue that having to be told how to use a product to make it effective is a design flaw. Yes if I spent more time to become facile with the tool's feature set I will benefit in the long run. GDS gives it to me out of the box for any person that is comfortable using web search they now have desktop search. I intend to keep my eyes open to what Vista has to offer in the meanwhile but for now when I need something Google is the first place I check.
