Introduces Unified Mobile Commerce, Search and Advertising Platform to
Offer Service Providers New Business Models and Revenue Streams
"The new platform from Amdocs Advertising, Commerce and Entertainment
(ACE) division was introduced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona
(Amdocs Booth B101, Hall 8) and integrates the Amdocs Search and
Digital Advertising solution with the mobile commerce solutions of
Amdocs Qpass to offer service providers new business models and revenue
streams, such as ad-sponsored content. "
Prefetch on, prefetch off, prefetch on, prefetch off, prefetch....
"Sequential prefetch has been a part of DB2 since Version 1.2. In fact,
it’s hard to imagine getting along without. Even when the 'R' in the
plan table column ACCESSTYPE gets misinterpreted sometimes as a bad
thing, if you’ve been around DB2 long enough you learn that an access
using sequential prefetch is sometimes as good if not better than an
index access. For this post though, we are going to leave access path
strategies alone...."
Why Architecture initiatives always fail...
"Architecture is not easily measurable or quantifiable in numbers. You
can not really attach a dollar figure to architecture benefits. Gunnar Peterson
describes an interesting situation that says that the analogy of SOA is
a car while security is the brakes in the car. Having better breaks
allows you to drive faster. At some level, the same thing can be said
of good architecture in that you won't notice it for short trips to the
grocery store but you can certainly haul ass for long distances across
the planet."
Some thoughts on designing customer interactions for a quality experience
"My friend Bob Glushko and Lindsay Tabas wrote an interesting paper last year that Bob pointed out to me earlier this month - Bridging the 'Front Stage' and 'Back Stage' in Service System Design.
I liked the paper as it raised some interesting issues about customer
interactions, in particular whether interaction design or outcomes is
the most important factor in determining a customer’s satisfaction
after the interaction. This matters a great deal when focusing on the
customer experience as one must know what matters to customers if one
is to improve the overall experience."
Getting Sick of SOA Governance Yet?
"In the USA we don't like architectural control, specifically any sort
of behavior modification or discipline. It's a cultural thing, but at
the root of how many enterprises have a dysfunctional and inefficient
architecture. The trick is will people do governance, and will they
understand it. I think it's pretty simple if you ask me, it's just a
matter of planning and control."
Running IT 'like a business' has its limits
"A reported trend in how much IT departments are planning to invest in
improving their own processes provides an interesting test of how far
it's possible - and wise - to ‘run IT as a business.'"
