  • Product Comes from Process
As a company strips out the barriers and obstacles between itself and its customers, it approaches closer to the ideal of customer service, which already exists perfectly in the customer mind. We can see this reinvention happening by judging the goods and services that the company produces. Eventually, somebody makes a decent alarm clock...

  • How To Innovate (Like Dovetail Does With Amdocs Clarify CRM)
Some companies try to save on cost by outsourcing innovation – only to realize that true innovation requires excellent communication, which applies to outsourcing and inhouse projects both. And while IT is often a recipient of “marching orders” or requests from the company’s business side, IT should be getting in front of this process and leading it. But to do this it must first gain a clear business understanding and this takes work. But one of the forces that threatens established companies can also be a source of salvation: disruptive change.

  • Evolving IT
The alignment of IT with the business requirements should not require a trade-off in IT’s effectiveness as a developer and steward of the enterprise computing environment. Effectiveness and alignment can be merged into a single, overarching imperative to succeed across both technical and business benchmarks.

  • Software as a Dis-Service?
There should really be little surprise to encounter the drawbacks that are intrinsic to SaaS, and obvious from an initial appraisal: the deployment depends on the uptime of the service provider, and when the system goes down, in-house IT is powerless even to give assurances or estimates; data security is the other obvious area of concern, but less obvious to any except IT perhaps is the underlying structure of the organization’s data, and the question of how amenable to hosted processing it is.

  • Healthcare Customer Service
The healthcare profession, as we reported recently, has found a natural interest in the principles and the technologies of CRM. The human element is coming back into the CRM equation, in hospitals as it already is in contact centers.

  • Keeping Data Simple
Business intelligence capability requires integrated data that can both be retrieved from across the entire enterprise in customizable summary form, and drilled down to with tightly specific granularity. And the tools had better be easy to use, or the people who most need the intelligence – generally the business side, not the tech side – won’t know how to use the system.

  • Business Intelligence Now
Business intelligence (BI) has been a grail of sorts for over a decade, in its early days promising to supply executives and managers with market intelligence and performance management based on key performance indicators (KPI) leveled against the body of knowledge.

BI is still trying to measure up to these inflated expectations – but maybe now we’re getting somewhere. Best practices for BI are beginning to clarify.

  • Agile Process Agile Product
Process and product are indivisible. They say you don’t want to watch the process of politics or sausage making, and software development may run close to this sometimes too, but the fact is that you know the tree by its fruit. Process and product are indivisible, with each the perfect mirror of the other.

Exposing the processes by which Dovetail’s software is created has been held to be an admirable thing, but it stems not so much from nobility as from the overarching desire to get it right. All that matters is to build the best for the customer. The greater the light of day the process can be exposed to, the more chance for the perfect ideas to fall into the mix.

  • The Risk of SaaS in CRM
The debate continues about the relative values of on-demand versus on-premise CRM solutions. Concerns about hosted services hinge on security and integration, with also the fear of vendor lock-in. and IT lock-out.
